Symphony League / Volunteers
Since 1971, the Symphony League has been commited to the financial support of the Tupelo Symphony Orchestra. The League sponsors fundraising projects each year such as auctions, Gourmet Dinners, an annual Designer house, cooking demonstrations, and the annual Fantasia Ball which is given in partnership with the Tupelo Ballet. The ongoing fund raiser for the orchestra was made possible by the publication of "Great Performances" cookbook. The first printing of 10,000 copies of "Great Performances" was sold by the League and already 2,500 or more copies of the second printing have been sold. The goal for these fund raisers each year is to raise enough money to pay for one concert of each season.
Believing in the importance of arts education in the schools, the League continually sponsors children's concerts for city and county children. The League assisted in arranging and organizing several special concerts. in 1996, over 9,000 area children were introduced to Russian culture at a concert by the St. Petersburg State Symphony Orchestra, and again in 1998, a children's concert was presented by the University of Paris-Sorbonne Symphony Orchestra. In 1999, the National Symphony from Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., did a residency program in Tupelo in which a number of special programs were presented in schools to all grade levels from primary through high school in the North Mississippi region.
Membership in the Tupelo Symphony League is open to anyone interested in helping with the many jobs that have to be done to keep the symphony running or to simply support TSO with your money indicating that you believe what we are doing is important.
